LIVE ON so far focussed on cadaver donations. Its importance was stressed, the need of understanding what exactly is brain dead is.While the heart is beating the vital organs need to be harvested.Even if you are not an organ donor yet, inform & keep telling family members how much this means to you to. In fact, it will help you LIVE ON. So make sure you take care of yourself mainly to make sure you stay away from lifestyle related diseases. The only certainty in life is the arrival of death. We may not be aware of WHEN & HOW!
Sometimes however a live donor works better for some patients. Organs like the kidneys or a part of the liver can be donated while we are alive. Doing that can make a big difference. Usually why a transplant doesn't happen even when there is a ready donor available is blood groups do not match.
One of the best ways to use the organ is by swapping donors..What is it? This exercise is not done frequently mainly because of lack of awareness. If people are willing to open up & choose to be available there could be more lives saved.
Another method is that of a case when blood groups do not match.Interesting method is what they have come up with to counter the challenge of incompatible blood groups. Its way more expensive & rarer. Age should also not be a deterrent to be an organ donor. If you are healthy you are eligible to make a difference in a few people's life.
All this in detail was what Dr. Ballal, eminent nephrologist of Bangalore city & Medical Director manipal hospitals discussed. PFB the link:

Don't think of organ Donation as giving up a part of yourself to keep a total stranger alive. It is really a total stranger giving up all of himself to keep a part of YOU alive.
